Our Learn to Play program is our entry-level program for aspiring hockey players. Players should have successfully completed several learn-to-skate sessions and be ready for the next step in their development before entering learn-to-play, as skating is the most important aspect of the game.
This program will focus on improving all aspects of skating as well as introducing players to basic hockey skills.

Perfect for the brand-new hockey player who desires to learn the sport in a fun, active, and teaching environment.  Instruction is focused on the fundamentals of hockey: skating, passing, shooting and stickhandling. Practices will focus on constant movement and increased puck touches. Players will learn the proper way to hold their stick, correct hockey position, hockey stops, and a basic introduction to backward skating. Instruction and drills/games are designed to be 100% FUN.

The Learn to Play Hockey Rookie program includes free equipment for first time  Rookie 1  participants. The gear is provided through the rink and will be available at the rink prior to the first on-ice session. Available sizes are Youth Small (ages 3-5 or 6), Youth Large (ages 5 or 6 to 8). Set Includes: helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, pants, shin guards, hockey stick, and jersey. A program director will contact registered players with specific details relating to the gear distribution.

The MC Selects Little Rookie Program offers FREE GEAR for first time players included with registration. Players should complete Pre-Hockey 1 & 2 in the Learn to Skate program before signing up,  or receive instructor permission.

It’s never too late to learn to play hockey.  This program is designed for older kids (ages 9-14) new to the game. Players will learn the same fundamental hockey skills in a setting for older kids. Players should have completed a Learn to Skate series prior to registering.

Full Equipment is required.

Open for all levels (Mites, Squirts, PeeWees, Bantams, 16U+19U)

A pickup game is typically played. We suggest bringing a light and dark jersey. Full equipment is required.

It All Begins Here! The ETR Skating Academy is the backbone and feeder to our local hockey and figure skating programs. Learn to Skate USA is the only learn-to-skate program endorsed by: U.S. Figure Skating, USA Hockey, and U.S. Speedskating.

Following Learn to Skate USA Curriculum, our instructors will focus on teaching techniques that will progress skaters at their own pace in a fun group environment, creating a pathway to their sport of choice: hockey or figure skating or becoming a stronger recreational skater.

We offer group classes for boys and girls and men and women ages three and up. Our classes are open year-round and managed on a quarterly basis- Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer. LearntoSkateUSA membership is required. learntoskateusa.com
